Licence keys and computers (tills)

How one key works on several computers, moving to a new PC, and what the plan allows.

One key, several computers

  • Your plan sets how many computers one licence key can run on (Computers (tills) per licence).
  • Type the same key on every till computer. Each computer takes one place ("seat") until the plan's number is reached.
  • Reinstalling on the same computer takes no new seat.
  • You find your key under Billing → My Desktop Licences. It also shows each computer using it, by its Windows name.

Activate a computer

  1. Install the desktop till (see Installing the Windows desktop till).
  2. Connect the computer to the internet, open the till and enter your licence key.
  3. The till says, for example, "Licence activated — computer 2 of 3".

All seats in use

If every seat is taken, the till tells you which computers use the key. Either:

  1. Release a computer you no longer use: Billing → My Desktop Licences → Release next to it. Then activate the new computer with the same key. Or
  2. Upgrade to a plan with more computers.

No internet at the shop

Lifetime keys can be activated without internet: the till shows a Device ID. Send it to us (see Contact) and we give you an activation code to type in. Monthly and yearly keys must activate online once, so the paid period can be checked.

In a business with branches

After activating, give each computer its till and branch in Branches & Tills (see Branches, warehouses and stock transfers).
