A tip is money for the person who served the customer. It is never a sale: the sale, its VAT and your sales reports stay the bill only.
Example: the bill is N$350 and the customer pays N$400 on the card machine. N$350 is the sale. N$50 is the tip for the cashier.
Switch tips on, and choose how staff are paid
- Open Settings → Receipt Printer & Cash Drawer.
- Tick Accept tips at the till (cash, card, EFT).
- Choose how tips reach the staff:
- At once (recommended): after the sale the drawer opens and the cashier takes the tip out in cash. A cash tip is given straight to the staff member and never goes into the drawer.
- At cash-up: tips stay in the drawer, and the shift slip shows the tips to pay to each staff member at the end of the shift.
- Press Save Printer Settings.
A tip by card or EFT
- Ring up the sale and choose Card (or EFT).
- On the Card payment screen, type the tip — or type the amount the customer paid on the machine (for example 400): the till works out the tip.
- The screen shows Charge on the machine (bill + tip). Charge that amount on the card machine.
- Press Complete & Print. The drawer opens: take the tip out and give it to the cashier.
A tip in cash
- Choose Cash and type the cash the customer handed over.
- Type the tip in Tip (optional). The till shows the change after the bill and the tip.
- Give the change, and keep the tip out of the drawer — it goes to the staff member.
In the restaurant till
The payment screen has tip buttons (10%, 15%…) and an amount box. Tips on a card or EFT payment are paid out of the drawer the same way.
At cash-up
The Cash Register screen, the shift slip and the Z-report show:
- Tips (not sales) — split into cash, card and EFT.
- Less card/EFT tips paid to staff — the cash that left the drawer for tips, so the drawer still balances.
- Card machine total (sales + tips) — the same figure as the card machine's own end-of-day slip.
A tip cannot be put on a customer account. Tips always belong to the cashier who made the sale.
