Connecting a receipt printer and cash drawer

Choose the printer, paper width, logo and drawer; print a test; fix common errors.

Set up the printer (desktop till)

  1. Install the printer's Windows driver and switch the printer on.
  2. In the till open Settings → Receipt Printer & Cash Drawer.
  3. How is the printer connected? — choose the installed printer from the list.
  4. Paper width — 80mm (most printers), 58mm (small printers) or A4.
  5. Tick Print logo to put your business logo at the top of the receipt.
  6. Press Test your printer.

Cash drawer

Most drawers plug into the back of the receipt printer and open when a cash sale is completed. Choose When should the cash drawer open automatically? to suit your shop.

Two printers (kitchen and till)

In a restaurant, set the kitchen printer and the customer receipt printer separately under Restaurant Settings → Printers.

Common problems

  • Nothing prints: check the printer is on, has paper, and is the one chosen in Settings. Print a Windows test page to rule out the driver.
  • Windows error 1905 / "printer not found": the printer was renamed or reinstalled — choose it again in Settings.
  • Faint print: replace the paper roll (thermal paper fades with age) and keep the print-head clean.
Tip: every printout — receipts, the Z-report, kitchen tickets — goes straight to the printer on the desktop till, with no print dialog.
